me and 3 other friends are going camping over night, and does anyone have any ideas what we could eat?
Answer:
Depends on whether the food is part of the experience or just a necessity. For example, you could go fast and simple like cereal, canned foods, granola, hot dogs.
Or.. if you are looking for something a bit more interesting, you could fill a ziplock bag with pancake mix (the kind where you just add water), buy some precooked bacon (if you can find it), scrambled eggs.. things like that for breakfast; go light/carry along stuff for lunch. By keeping breakfast and dinner the main meals, avoids tieing you to the campsight during the day. Dinner can be pasta; or if you want more of a challenge and have the equipment, can buy a preseasoned pork loin and bake it in a dutch oven over a coals (need to put hot coals on top too) .. toss a can of sauerkraut into the dutch oven while baking .. but make sure you cook it thoroughly (obviously). This one was a big hit with about 30 Boy Scouts one summer.
Really.. depends on your goal and your gear (and your taste). Also, make sure where you are camping has potable drinking water.. if not, you will need to bring a lot of water. In that case, I'd avoid any meal that requires boiling large pots of water (like pasta). If you think camping is going to be something you get into, might want to pick up a book called The Complete Walker IV (I have III and never go camping without it). Just looked it up on Amazon.. sells for under $16.
Want a real easy meal the first day? Pick up a pizza on the way to the campsite :-)
