Over the centuries there has been so many changes, that the area is so close into both countrys that most are able to speak both languages.
Even the food and wines are more along the lines of the Germanic heritage, like the fish and other pork based meals, my favorite is Choucrote Garni, the various sausage, pork hocks, vegetables and sauerkraut, and serve with a spicey Gewurztramenier.
