Not sure where it's illegal but, everclear is very dangerous stuff. I would not recommend drinking everclear it's like a poison. People die from alcohol poisoning with everclear. If I remember right it doesn't really have much of a taste so it is easy to drink down....that is why it so easy to get alcohol poisoning from it other than the fact it is pure alcohol.

I don't see it in California, so I have to imagine that there is a legal reason it's not here. But when I lived in Georgia, we would buy a bottle between several guys and right before payday, one bottle goes a long way! Tastes horrible though!!
