the process of making aluminum drinking cans
Answer:
I thought they just grew on supermarket shelves!
They start with a flat disk which is placed in a press and the press forms the shape, a lid is added job done.
Watch out for the drink can episode of "How It's Made" on Discovery
For the MOST part, they are PRESS-molded out of sheet cold-aluminum to form the body. A flange is bent into the top to accept the lid. They are then painted inside with coatings to protect the beer or soda from developing an "aluminum-flavor" and outside to give the customer their logo.
They are then FILLED, and the lids are placed on top under vacuum.... the whole can is then pasteurized.
Interesting side-note... the cans of today use ONE QUARTER of the aluminum of a can from 1977
