Answer:
A Seven year old Champagne?

Well unless I am mistaken and since Champagnes do not "mellow with Age" like the more serious Red wines do, I would be very skeptical in thinking that it would be very much more than what you paid for it seven years ago.

Then again someone may just want some "Champagne Vinegar" to go along with their Escargot salad!

Personally I would seriously consider any offer for twice the amount you paid for it and would probably consider myself very lucky with that.

But - Be that as it may -

Good Luck and Good Fortune with it!
2000 was a great vintage year in general for France, and $40 is a good price (since the going market seems to be $40-60), but your bottle isn't top of the line and will never be worth significantly more than you paid for it.

A bottle of Dom or Deutz stored properly for 5-20 more years would appreciate, maybe even a lot (I've seen 1995 Dom's - the last great vintage - going for between $175-$350 whether at auction or at retail), but that isn't what you have, and unless you have a natural wine cellar in your house (correct temperature and humidity, dark with no vibration) it will cost you as much as you'd make just to store it properly.

champagne doesnt age that well really, i never keep it for more than a year. think the guide is no more than 3, so the qualitly might have deteriorated a fair bit by now. moet is a pretty generic champagne too so wouldnt think it was worth much more. aw boo! you should have sent it to me 4 years ago, i wouldnt have let it go to waste lol
Several of the people who have answered you thus far are talking out of their buttocks. Vintage French Champagne is REQUIRED by French Law to age for 3 years. Moet ages longer - I believe for twice that long if I remember correctly. Which would put a 2000 harvest as being released right about now.

If you are thinking that you have an "aged" wine, you do not. 2000 may be the most recent vintage, actually. For Europe, I found prices as low as £19.18 and as high as £26.99, so you seem to be right in there.

Hope this helps. http://www.wine-searcher.com/wine-select...
