I am planning a cookout for tomorrow night, and I would like to try something new. Any homemade marinades or other fixin's you could recommend for steaks or steak kabobs?

Answers:
There are lots of ingredients you can use in homemade marinades. You just have to experiment and add in what sounds good. Here are some good ingredients to play with:

lime juice
lemon juice
cider vinegar
pepper
garlic (minced cloves)
soy sauce
honey
sesame oil (found in asian foods section in grocery store)
chili oil (for a spicy taste)
hot sauce (doesn't necessarily make food spicy)
onion/minced onion/onion powder
any other spices that smell good and appropriate

I think that ingredient you had an additional question about is liquid smoke. That could be a good one too. Just don't be afraid to experiment!

italian dressing is great on kababs... but this is great also... soak them in Orange Juice, and sprinkle mrs dash on them just before cooking its a great meditrainian flavor

balsamic vinegar is a nice marinade Some ideas here:

i have a recipe for a good balsamic honey mustard. base with mayo, put two times the curry powder as dill weed. then mix in dijon mustard (the kind with the seeds in it) and add in honey, then put in balsamic vinegar, its really good, and you should make to taste, more honey for sweet, more vinegar for tang my favorite is very simple...one part oil of smoke, three parts soy sauce (I prefer low sodium), minced fresh garlic, chopped onion, and crushed peppercorn. Mix together in ziplock and toss meat in. refrigerate for a few hours or more, turning and mixing occasionally.
