The correct recipe for a pound cake (including having it come out properly baked (not dry) is:
Cream 1 pound of sugar into 1 pound of butter (margarine changes texture and moistness)
once creamed add slowly 1 pound flour beating slowly so as to not make flour dust
once flour is incorporated, add one at a time, eggs to make one pound without shells
(about 12 medium, 10 large or 8 exlarge)
mix slowly until mixture is smooth and creamy, then add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon baking powder (1/4 if new,1/2 if old)
Grease and flour anglefood pan while preheating oven to 300 degrees.
Fill pan with mixture and bake at 300 about 90 minutes until wooden toothpick (not cake tester) comes out almost clean.
Cool remove from pan enjoy!
For loaf pan bake for about 60 minutes until wooden toothpick (not cake tester)comes out almost clean.

Check your oven temperature: I have to use a separate, internal oven thermometer because the (temperature) dial on mine is not accurate.
Add applesauce, oil, or butter to your recipe, but be careful not to overdo it!
You might also try taking it out of the oven earlier than usual. Do you halve the recipe? Is your oven too hot (see above about thermometer)? It might just have been overbaked. Check it with a toothpick poked in the center, up to twenty minutes before it should be done, and then thereafter at regular intervals.

Try adding to the cake mix the following:
1 package dream whip and 1 small box pudding mix (the cook kind not instant). Cook as directed on box of cake mix. I found this to be very moist and it is a receipe for "Dream Cake" in a bundt pan but can be done in any pan. My Favourite Never-Fail Recipe for
German Gold Poundcake - from my Good Housekeeping Cookbook
2 c sugar
1 c butter (softened)
3 1/2 c flour
1 c milk
6 egg yolks
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp vanilla
1/8 tsp salt
1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease and flour 10" Bundt pan.
2. In lg bowl at high speed beat sugar into butter till light and fluffy
3. Add flour and remaining ingredients at low speed umtil well mixed, constantly scraping sides of bowl w/ a rubber spatula
4. Beat at high speed a full 4 minutes
5.Pour batter into Bundt pan and bake 1 hr. Cool pan on wire rack 10 min, then remove from pan (carefully - it doesn't stay together like an angel food cake if you're too rough - experience :) ) and allow to cool completely on rack.
Voila! The cake I use to impress people. you could bake it at a lower temp. or keep the same temp. but don't bake it as long.
