I have a packet of lamb ragout by maggi,no beef goulash packet. Have diced beef, and was wondering if you think this would work?
Answers:
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 lb round steaks, Cubed
3 medium onions, Chopped
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon sugar
2 cups water, Hot
1 tablespoon unbleached flour
1/4 cup water, Cold
1/2 cup cream (optional)
4 servings Change size or US/metric
Change to: servings US Metric
1 hour 47 minutes
Heat vegetable oil in a large fry pan or Dutch oven.
Add meat cubes and brown well, approximately 10 minutes.
Stir in onions; cook until soft.
Sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic salt, paprika, and sugar.
Blend thoroughly.
Pour in hot water; cover and simmer gently about 1 1/2 hours.
In a small jar or container, shake or blend flour with cold water.
Be sure to break up all lumps.
Add to meat about 7 minutes before the end of the cooking time.
Stir constantly until sauce is thickened and bubbling.
Remove from heat, check the flavour adding more salt and pepper as required.
Stir in cream if using.
Serve with noodles, rice or potatoes

Get creative I say. Throw out that packet, it'll be full of salt anyhow. or look online. The BBC website has a recipe finder that allows you to put in what ingredients you have at hand. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/

4 cloves garlic, minced...as much as you want to use
1 8 ounce can tomato paste
1 cup of beef broth
1/2 box elbow noodles
water
salt
pepper
paprika, i use alot
Brown meat, drain,
Add everything else except noodles and simmer for 2 hours, watching that the liquid doesnt go out of it, add water as needed. Make noodles and add them in at the end
HUNGARIAN GOULASH WITH BEEF CHUNKS
2 lb. boneless beef chuck
2 tbsp. bacon drippings
2 c. hot water
2 beef bouillon cubes
1/2 bay leaf
1 clove garlic, minced
3 med. onions, coarsely chopped
1/2 green pepper, coarsely chopped
2 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. paprika
3 tbsp. melted butter
Salt and pepper to taste
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
4 med. potatoes, cubed
Cut the meat into 1 inch cubes. Brown in bacon drippings at 350 degrees. Add to meat, bouillon cubes dissolved in 2 cups water, bay leaf, garlic, onions and green pepper. Reduce heat to simmer, cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours. Or until meat is tender. Combine flour, paprika and melted butter. Stir until smooth. Add some liquid from goulash to make a smooth paste. Add to goulash stirring until well blended. Salt and pepper to taste, add tomato paste. Then add potatoes. Cover and cook another 30 to 45 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
