This is the first rice cooker I've owned, and so I bought a lower-end model, one that lacks a non-stick pan. So, when rice is cooked in it, it sticks, and this creates a scrub-fest at the end of the meal. Other than buying a new rice cooker, one with a non-stick pan and other amenities, what can I do?

Answers:
If you just let it soak when you're done it comes off pretty easily. We have my in-laws' ancient rice cooker, and we have the same problem. Also, make sure you rinse your rice before you cook it. I wouldn't put any kind of oil in while it was steaming. The water would probably just wash it off anyway.

Other Answers:
pam or coat w/ oil

spray on pam, or use cooking oil salt

add a small drop of lemon while cooking rice

I don't see a point in rice cookers. You still have to agressively monitor them so the rice doesn't stick.

Just check on the rice every 2 minutes when you know it is almost done.

Pam or oil. Usually when rice sticks it is because the heat is too high. I am not sure if it has a regulator on the heat, but try that, too. put lesser water to the rice so the rice wouldnt be mushy and stick to the rice cooker.

one cup of water per cup of rice, and lower the heat

You can grease the cooker. One way to avoid a scrubfest is to scrape out the rice cooker with a wooden spoon when you serve the rice. Pour "cold" water into the cooker after you use it. Let it sit a half our, the rice will rinse out easy, with very little scrubbing.

The first thing to do is add the water and two tablespoons of oil. Mix them together and add the rice and one tablespoon of salt. The trick is to let the water boil first then mix the rice with it. Hope's this help. If you buy a higher end model at a real authentic chinese grocer, you will pay around $100.00 dollars or maybe more, but you will never have rice stick to the bottom of the rice cooker and most likely will not have to replace that cooker,as the saying goes you get what you pay for.

Add more water and you can also add butter.

more water!
