Answers:
How to boil rice (for 2-3 people):
When cooked correctly, long grain rice should be dry and fluffy white separate grains. It is the ideal accompaniment for curries and chillies.

Ingredients
1 cup long grain rice
2 cups of cold water
pinch of salt
saucepan with tight fitting lid

Method
- Put the rice and water into the saucepan and bring to the boil.
- Simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Remove from the heat.
- Put the lid onto the saucepan (if it does not fit tightly, place a clean tea cloth over the pan and push the lid down over it).
- Leave to stand with no heat at all for about 15 minutes or until all the water has been absorbed and the rice is separate and fluffy.

look on your rice package then if you can read, read it
just boil the rice!
YOU PUT IT IN BOILING WATER I THINK???????????/
equal parts of water and rice
This isn't a dumb question at all! I just learned how and I'm 40 and cook a lot!

1 part water to two parts rice, then add a little more water.

First you bring the water to a boil, then you add the rice and stir. Turn the water down to a simmer and let it sit there, covered WITHOUT STIRRING IT. That is the trick. If you stir it the rice gets all sticky and clumpy.

You know it is done when it starts to get little holes where the air is escaping. Let it get a little more than you think is done and voila!

If it sticks, to clean the pot just fill it with water and soak it overnight. If you are in a hurry to clean it, pour a bunch of baking soda on it and let it sit for 1/2 or so. That's an old-time trick to clean dirty pots.

I like to use chicken broth instead of water. I also add butter and/or corn. Season salt is good. Turmeric will make it yellow, which is nice.

Happy Ricing!
Your right, boil 2 cups of water, add 1 cup of rice, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 min...u may wanna add a little butter and salt, for extra flavor, skip the butter & salt, and use chicken broth in place of water.
mearure 1 part rice to 2 parts cold water (expl:1 cup rice to 2 cups water) in med. or heavy saucepan, bring to boil, cover with fitted lid, turn heat down to simmer for 20 min.fluff with fork, replace lid and let stand 3-4 min.
I read this in the paper one day. The method is used in Asia and is dead simple! Measure your rice. Rinse, rinse rinse it well in a strainer. Place in pot large enough to hold cooked amount. Cover with enough cold water to come up to the first knuckle (the joint before your finger nail)
of your index finger. Put on to boil and turn down heat
to low when it does boil and place lid on the pot for 10 - 15 minutes (if basmati). When finished fluff with fork. This recipe never fails if you use regular long grain white rice (not minute rice or brown rice) It doesn't even matter if you use a different size pot or don't measure the rice very well. As long as the water comes up to your knuckle it works!! Good luck.
I only make beans and occasinally eat dirt
Best is to get a rice cooker. Ratio is one cup rice to one and a half cup of water even when cooking in pan. Soak rice for about 30 mins in measured warm water before u start cooking. Once it boils, reduce heat and simmer till water evaporates. You have to be exact when it comes to proportions of water and rice or it will turn out mushy if u use more. I cook rice everyday in rice cooker though.
listen to bunshir he's got it right
I have always found the best way is with a rice cooker. you turn it on and forget about it and what makes it even better is that it will keep it warm for you also. you can even add flavourings to it so your not just getting plain rice. you will never want to cook rice on the top or your cooker again once you have had it from a rice cooker.
