you burn the charcoal then the heat from the embers are what you use to cook.. you dont cook over live fire.. it results in black toasted meat that is very carcinogenic (gives way to more chances of having cancer) but if you like.. you spill some lighter fluid into the grill and drop a match in it.. don't do it at the same time or you'll end up burning yourself... also.. stand back.. it might burst into flames..

put charcol in the grill take a paper towel and roll it on fire the light it then put the paper towel on the charcol until it lights then u take it off and put the paper towel out that means for u to put the fire out on the paper towel
