Answers:
To make great fench toast, dip the bread in this mixture. 1/2 cup milk, 3 tbsp sugar and salt and pepper. Keep it in this for 30 secs and then fry it. Then when it is dried up, put freshly greated parmesian cheese on it. Yummy!

Other Answers:
use old bread, soak in eggs and milk for a long time (30 min usually but overnight is better), fry in butter on non-stick pan until brown/desired cripness. don't use too much butter though!

Beat an egg, 2 TBSP milk, 1 tsp vanilla and 1 tsp sugar until frothy. Dip your bread and fry in melted butter on both sides until golden brown. Double Dip!

Good job Druid, but add a little cinnamon!

use druid and filmans suggestions with texas toast style bread! yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Well...mine is a pretty simple recipe...I find it easy to make and absolutely love the way it tastes...beat eggs, salt, red chillie powder and black pepper together in proportions best suited to your taste and dip fresh slices of bread in the mix...fry it in a non-stick pan using little oil.Have it with either tomato ketchup or preferably latino chilli sauce...yum.A tip-no matter what ur taste-remember-eggs require very little salt so dont add salt pepper etc...SPRINKLE IT. French toast does not contain pepper, salt nor do you eat it with ketchup.
You beat apprx. 3 eggs, 1/4 c. milk, splash of vanilla extract, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/4 tsp Cinnamon, beat till well mixed. Take french loaf slices, that have been left out overnight, dip them in the egg mixture. Cook in a skillet fry pan, with melted butter, flip to cook evenly, remove and top with butter, maple syrup and powdered sugar.!!

French toast is anything anyone wants it to be! A savoury version with the chili's, etc. sounds wonderful.

My mother wasn't the most inventive cook when I was growing up, so it was always just the egg, salt & pepper version (fried in an oil bath, no less!) when I was a kid.

However, my best friend made me french toast that changed my culinary life - she makes hers with eggs, a dash of vanilla and a pinch of cinnamon. Any kind of bread will do, though personally I love using brioche, dipped into the egg mixture and then fried in butter, over a medium flame, until a lovely crisp brown on both sides. Serve immediately with, (or without): Maple syrup, more butter, honey, fruit preserves, a dusting of powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar.

The long-soaked, cheesy version would be known as a "Cheese Strata"; grate 3 ounces of your favorite cheese (chedder, jarlsburg, swiss, etc) and set aside. [Optionally add 1 very thin sliced shallot [or approx a tablespoon of finely minced onion] to the cheese and toss to combine them.] In a baking dish, line the bottom with a layer of any kind of bread. Sprinkle over it a layer of the cheese. Do another layer of bread then cheese then bread and a final thick layer of cheese. In a bowl combine 3 cups of milk, and 3 lighly beaten eggs with a 1/4 tsp of kosher salt, a pinch of white OR cayenne pepper (or ground chipotle pepper is great). Carefully pour this milk mixture over the bread/cheese. Be sure all the bread is given a share of this milk bath, pressing the corners down to make certain they are well soaked. If the dish doesn't appear wet enough, simply mix another egg with another cup of milk and add to the dish.

Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge a minimum of two hours, but certainly the longer the better (overnight is best!).

Remove plastic and bake in a preheated 350 degree (gas mark 4) oven for 45-60 minutes until puffed and gorgeously brown and crisp on top. When done, remove from oven and allow to sit for 15 minutes before cutting it. Great served warm or room temp. Other options are to also include diced ham or bacon within the inner layers.

Cheers Day old bread dipped in mixture of eggs, milk and vanilla. Then stuff it with whatever you like. I like peanut butter banana and some chocolate chips.
