Okay, I'm 23 and been living on salad and sandwiches for way too long. I'm going to start cooking! I've got baby shrimp and peas and carrots, I want to add the rice and cook them all together? I don't want to use all the eggs and spices and stuff that I've read in other answers. Can I cook it in just a frying pan? Do I use oil/butter? Cooking spray? Please help, I'm tired of salad and grilled chicken, lol!!
Thanks!
Answers:
Boil some white rice until it's cooked. Then melt some butter in a frying pan (try to make sure the rim is big enough so the rice doesn't spill out) Pour the rice into the frying pan and add soy sauce and stir frequently. You'll only need to fry your rice for a few minutes (on med-high so you don't burn it). Add in whatever other ingredients you want (while it's still frying). Enjoy. It really is simple!
Other Answers:
You need to cook (boil) the rice first... usually 10 mins will do for 1 or 2 servings... then add it to the pan of everything else thats nearly done and stir fry for about 5 mins...
Enjoy it!
Well when I have made it in the past for my friends, I've used egg, but i put some cooking spray on the pan first, then oil (i use olive oil) and then a bit of broth, like veggie or chicken (i don't eat chicken, but this is optional anyways). and then after the eggs, I'd put the veggies and some soy sauce and sesame oil (optional as well) and then some fresh white rice and fry it all together. I got pretty good reviews from my friends for making it like that. Of all the things to try to cook, I would hardy try fried rice because of it's difficulty. Anyway KYSSABLE1 was 100% correct about placing the rice in the freezer and here's why; freshly cooked rice is too wet and makes horrible fried rice. The freezer in a modern home is the most bone dry place you probably have. Your going to want to have the rice in the freezer overnight. It will suck the water right out it like a real champ. Just make sure you don't cover the container so that the moisture can get out.
Fry up your vegetables in a little peanut oil ( Tablespoon is about right) until they are done to your liking, then add your precooked rice and get everything all hot and steamy. Now is the time to drizzle soy sauce in with the rice. Add a tablespoon or so and stir for a while. Keep adding and stirring until the rice is the color and saltiness that you prefer. Serve immediately.
All the cooking instructions are fine, but USE COLD RICE! That is key. Put whatever you want it. However, if you want it have the basic taste you get from a Chinese restaurant, use a little bit of oyster sauce (available in any ethnic foods section of the grocery store) and soy sauce. most of the answers you got were good, but incomplete. here- cook the white rice, right? then, beat a couple eggs in a cup, then get a wok or skillet hot-don't use butter, this is too hot for butter and it'll taste burned. so, oil-in the wok, HOT add a piece of crushed garlic, stir a minute, take out the garlic.drop the rice in the wok, pour the goopy mess o' eggs in there, and stir till the eggs are done. get a bottle of oyster sauce and put a couple tablespoons into the still-cooking rice, stir, and add some pre-cooked chopped up any-meat. chicken, shrimp, beef, pork, yer boyfriends barkin' ol' shnauzer, whatever. bon appetite.
