I'm sure this isn;t the best answer, but my familay and I use this product called steak-ums, and you can pretty much cook them in a frying pan if i remember correctly, serve on a hoagie roll with american cheese underneath, can cook wtih onions and peppers in the frying pan if you wish as well. But these will be found in your frozen section of food market, and I believe the box is red, with instructions on it even, VERY simple to make if you can cook bacon in a pan, shouldnt be an issue to cook this.

Edit: after reviewing some of the thorough and wonderful instructions, I think I'd have to say Snigly's is the best so far, it is probably the simplest out of the group, which is what you are looking for, and seems to have the directions down pat, based off of memory. It won't be exactly like philly steaks like some of the others will be, but to combine ease and taste, you will not be disappointed. I actually prefer steak-ums over getting a philly style steak from a restaraunt or deli.

My husband makes these awesome artery clogging Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches. He starts with chopped onion with a dash of pepper, then mushrooms and Steak Ums (Brand name of pre-chopped steak available at any grocery store) be sure to shred them while they cook, then he finishes it off with deli white American cheese (the best) and finally puts in on a soft steak bun or seeded split top bun while still in the skillet so that the yummy goodness soaks into the bread. YUMMMMM! You might be a not-so-good cook, but sounds like you're a great dad!! Try this:

Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich with Garlic Mayo

Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cook Time: 20 Minutes Ready In: 30 Minutes
Yields: 4 servings

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup mayonnaise
2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound beef round steak, cut into thin strips
2 green bell peppers, cut into
1/4 inch strips 2 onions, sliced into rings
salt and pepper to taste
4 hoagie rolls, split lengthwise and toasted
1 (8 ounce) package shredded mozzarella cheese
1 teaspoon dried oregano

DIRECTIONS:
1. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and minced garlic. Cover, and refrigerate. Preheat oven to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C).

2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Saute beef until lightly browned. Stir in green pepper and onion, and season with salt and pepper. Saute until vegetables are tender, and remove from heat.

3. Spread each bun generously with garlic mayonnaise. Divide beef mixture into the buns. Top with shredded cheese, and sprinkle with oregano. Place sandwiches on a baking pan.

4. Heat sandwiches in preheated oven, until cheese is melted or slightly browned.

okay get a flank steak or a steak that looks good at the store. Take it home and put it in the freezer for 30 mins. to 1 hour. While you are waiting for the meat to chill you can cut up your onions. Slice the onion into thin slices then set them aside
next slice your peppers the same in thin slices ( you can slice mushrooms if you like it's your choice).
Then after 30 mins or 1 hour at the most take your steak out of the freezer and slice into thin slices ( the reason for putting the steak in the freezer is that it makes it easier to slice when it's really cold). Cook your steak to the doneness you like, then take it out of the skillet and add your vegs.( make sure you add a little oil to skillet before cooking the meat and the vegs). Cook the vegs just until they are a little tender they should still have a little bit to them. Add the meat back to the pan salt and pepper to taste then sever on the bread of your choice with cheese of your choice. ( if you want to you can put the meat and vegs on the bread then top with the cheese and put it in the oven to melt the cheese).

I'm studing to be a cater Follow the above advice from mheath0781! The other recipes are slightly off.

You MUST use Steak-Umms (never real steak), Amorroso (sp) hoagie buns, and yellow cheese (never, ever Cheez-Whiz or white cheese).

Salt-Pepper-Ketchup

Put it on a paper plate, and when the plate is transparent from the grease, you eat it!

This Philly girl used bacon grease to cook the Steak-Umms.

I grew up on them, in Philly!
