Answers:
start off with a simple recipe try it out on someone you trust if they enjoy it they will tell you so [which will make you feel good] therefore it will give you the encouragement to try something a little harder and so forth keep trying you will get the cookery bug just like the rest of us

Other Answers:
Go to a cooking class.

Experiment with some recipes.

When you find that you can make some great dishes, and especially if other people compliment them, it makes cooking more enjoyable.

I love to cook but I only cook for myself. I invite friends in since food tastes better with friends. I think success and the joy of eating will help to develop your love for this craft. When I started to cook, I had a lot of flops so don't be discouraged. I love watching the cooking shows on the food channel. Everything looks so easy and good to eat! Make it a hobby. What you cooked can be shared with your friends and the less previledged.

I have been a professional cook most of my life....but I started cooking at age six (I grew up in large farm family). I hated cooking when I was young till my mother let pick the menu.....then I loved it. I suggest you start with the simple Betty Crocker cookbook, and then learn first to cook only things you love to eat. Doing the dishes seem to be a hassle for people, but just simply remember they have to be clean so just wash them as you go so there is not a big pile when the meal is done. After you get some confidence in your cooking, invite friends over to enjoy one of your meals, or invite them over to help....we all have to eat, and enjoying a good meal with good people can return some of the best memories in life. Please always try to look at cooking as fun and not ever a chore.

First, get a GOOD cookbook. Read it like a book full of short stories...Find some you like--mark it with a post it note. When you feel like making something, go back and pick out one you'd like to try.

Here's a list of cookbooks---you should have at least ONE of these in your kitchen

There are a few 'bibles' of cookbooks out there. Betty Crocker (1961-1980), Joy of Cooking (1975 or earlier), Fannie Farmer (1965), Vintage Better Homes and Gardens (the 1960's). ALL of these were basic, comfort food cookbooks that shows you how to do things and great recipes. Nothing from a box.

Once you can follow a recipe or two and the dish comes out great, you can then venture into any other cooking you want! (Baking takes practice. Measure exactly.)

If you don't want to buy cookbooks, it's easy to find recipes on line. Just put in a title or some of the major ingredients in a search and you'll find a TON!

Take a cooking class at your local kitchen supply store or an adult ed class. Watch cooking shows on PBS even!

You have your work cut out for you, but if you learn to cook, you will eat well the rest of you life! And by the way--you'll LOVE to cook when you hear praise from others over what you've created!

Bon appetite!
