Open package and take a good sniff you will know. If the meat is really crusted with ice also is a sign. freezer bags can keep meat good along time.

Sounds like you didn't get all the air out. I wouldn't eat it. Freezer burn can really make u sick or kill you. Throw it away...not worth the results! No, it is freezer burnt. It will taste horrible. Probabaly give belly ache, heartburn,etc. Throw it out!!!

Most supermarkets are introducing gases to thier red meats now to keep them the red color anyway. Monoxidous gases keep them red for longevity.
Another good thing to do is to rinse the meat before you freeze it, pat it dry and wrap it in cellophane before putting it in a freezer bag.
