My wife and I got a nice set of pots and pans as a gift. The problem is the handles are metal. It turns out that in this one instance high school physics is useful, because sure enough they conduct heat. I am not quite sure why they are metal, because it seems like the people who designed them probably knew that pots and pans get very hot when you heat them up. I imagine getting them hot is one of the goals of making a pot or pan. Maybe they skipped the day in high school physics where they melted the candle wax on a coat hanger. I dunno, but they even had stickers on them telling me to be careful because I could burn myself holding their pot handle. None of this solves the immediate problem though, which is now what do I do so I can actually cook with these without burning my hands. I bought some grandma gloves, but it is very unsatisfying to be in oven mitts while frying an egg. Is there some super silicon tape I can wrap around these, or some teflon sleeve I can super glue to them?

Answers:
They make rubber handle covers for pots and pans. Or you can sew them yourself. I prefer the rubber because they are less likely to burn....see link below.

Other Answers:
They make special mittens for that problem,, you can find then in most places that sell kitchen utincils.
I believe you can buy rubber handles for pots & pans at a home store. If not tape any heat resistant rubber on it. Or simply use a towel?
I have these little insulated sleeves that slip over the handles. Check out one of your local kitchen stores.
Wow,your problem sounds serious! Get some insulating cloth (not the itchy kind) and super glue it to the handle...that should do the trick!

I had a similar problem, but Hot Spot makes something called the HotHandle Handle Holder.

Go to www.thebestthings.com and click on housewares.

It's a silicone handle cover for metal pot and pan handles, and it keeps the heat from transferring through to your hands like a dishrag or a potholder or oven mitt would. They also have these wonderful silicone mid-upper arm length oven mitts. I bought one in black, and got rid of all my cloth ones.

Hope it helps.

I don't think you can glue anything to the handles, you know you have to wash them after using them..What will water do to your glue job??What about the things you glue, can they catch on fire??You might have to use pots and pans heat pads(thats what i call them)they are square ones and round ones, you can use them to pick up your handles and not get burn.Or use a thick small dish towel..But i like the oven mitts myself...

Yes, there are sleeves you can purchase to put over the handles. They are made out of the same silicone or rubber that the new bake-ware is made of. Otherwise, wrap a washcloth around the handle and secure with rubber-bands! Just make sure the cloth isn't close to the burner! Good luck!
Your pans are made with metal handles because alot of dishes call for finishing in the oven. You can't put plastic in a hot oven. They do make sleeves for the handles, you can buy them at any kitchen store. They're made out of the same stuff as pot holders. I won't buy pans with plastic handles, they just aren't versatile enough. Don't glue or do anything else permanent to the handles, you'll ruin the pans.
