Answers:
Put some aluminum foil over it, cut slits in it, and you'll be alright.

Other Answers:
i suppose you could put a piece of aluminum foil on the bottom, and put the coals on top of it...... , enjoy your meal!!!! s.t. from Ohio.

Put a couple layers of tin foil in bottom before adding charcoal. Should be fine!!!! Sure it is, if it is real bad, then I wouldn't. If you want to test it, just take a hammer and tap it, not too hard, just a tap, if it doesn't break through, then you are good to go.

so long as it is not rusted through. you could make extra sure by putting it over something or in a place where it can't start a fire. Keep water handy to control accidents.

Yes, go for it

YES you are not putting any food directly on the rust so you will be fine

I have been grilling for years, and many times I have actually put the meat on a grate that is a little rusty - it won't hurt you - it is just the metal oxidizing. Bon apetite!
