Answers:
Campylobacter is the leading cause of bacterial food poisoning in the United States, causing 2 million to 8 million cases a year with 200-800 deaths. Eating undercooked chicken or food that has been in contact with raw chicken causes campylobacter. The Center for Disease Control estimates that up to 70%-90% of chickens are infected with campylobacter.

The most commonly recognized foodborne infections are those caused by the bacteria Campylobacter, Salmonella, and E. coli O157:H7, and by a group of viruses called calicivirus, also known as the Norwalk and Norwalk-like viruses.

Campylobacter is a bacterial pathogen that causes fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. It is the most commonly identified bacterial cause of diarrheal illness in the world. These bacteria live in the intestines of healthy birds, and most raw poultry meat has Campylobacter on it. Eating undercooked chicken, or other food that has been contaminated with juices dripping from raw chicken is the most frequent source of this infection.

Salmonella is also a bacterium that is widespread in the intestines of birds, reptiles and mammals. It can spread to humans via a variety of different foods of animal origin. The illness it causes, salmonellosis, typically includes fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. In persons with poor underlying health or weakened immune systems, it can invade the bloodstream and cause life-threatening infections.

E. coli O157:H7 is a bacterial pathogen that has a reservoir in cattle and other similar animals. Human illness typically follows consumption of food or water that has been contaminated with microscopic amounts of cow feces. The illness it causes is often a severe and bloody diarrhea and painful abdominal cramps, without much fever. In 3% to 5% of cases, a complication called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) can occur several weeks after the initial symptoms. This severe complication includes temporary anemia, profuse bleeding, and kidney failure.

Calicivirus, or Norwalk-like virus is an extremely common cause of foodborne illness, though it is rarely diagnosed, because the laboratory test is not widely available. It causes an acute gastrointestinal illness, usually with more vomiting than diarrhea, that resolves within two days. Unlike many foodborne pathogens that have animal reservoirs, it is believed that Norwalk-like viruses spread primarily from one infected person to another. Infected kitchen workers can contaminate a salad or sandwich as they prepare it, if they have the virus on their hands. Infected

Yes, really.

It's not a big deal to me. I don't even know you. Go ahead. If you have just cut up a raw chicken and use the same knife? Then yes, it is a big deal. It is called cross-contamination and you could be serving up a big dose of salmonella poisioning along with that salad.

no raw chicken juices all over a salad sounds yummy
(except for the salmonella and the vomiting)

Definitely. Raw meat has tons of bacteria and microorganisms on them, and you could get violently sick or even die from eating it. Use a different knife or clean the knife before you cut anything else with it. A fact: a gram of uncooked pork can contain as much as 3000 roundworms! no .....not at all... hey better you than me...lol...just make sure your insurance is all up to date... and enjoy!

You will get sick because the chicken has a bacteria that cause stomachache into illness. If you want to use it, wash the knife very clean.

Uh, yeah. Big deal to me. Don't invite me over for a salad, okay?

Really , Really, Really BIG DEAL unless you don't care for your health, of course. yeah

Hello can you say salmonella. Yes do not do it.

Not if your idea of dieting is flu like symptoms! (vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite for days)

If you really need to ask, then I suggest you try doing it a few times... I'm sure the trip to the hospital for yourself and your family and the severity of the illness that follows will speak for itself. yeah its really not good u will get salmonella and could die

yes, that is a very bad idea! raw chicken contains bacteria such as e. coli and salmonella. These bacteria can cause you to become very ill. do not cut salad with a knife used to cut RAW chicken!
