In my opinion, the specific brand you choose would depend on the application. A good everyday BBQ which would please most palettes would be almost any sauce which is not proprietary. Proprietary BBQ's are typically just the sauce that establishment prefers to serve. More often than not these would be too tangy, sweet, or spicy for everyone at the table. KC Masterpiece is a good medium sauce even though it is proprietary. Crazy Dave makes an excellent sauce for Ribs. If you are working with lighter meats Chicken, pork, seafood etc. you probably will want a more classic style of sauce. Open Pit may suit this purpose. Probably the absolute best answer would be to stock a classic Cattleman's maybe.....This could be altered to suit anything you will be serving. If you need sweeter try honey to taste. If you need it spicier try cayenne to taste. If you like it smoked add liquid smoke to taste. You get the drift. On my Ribs I like to add a cup of honey per galllon AND 3 tablespoons Cayenne. UMMMM...Sweet Bite. This however kills the flavor of chicken and shrimp and would not be a suitable sauce. For these items you will probably want something a little more tame.
May I suggest you make your Ribs tonight. Fall off the bone tender??? Preheat your oven to 225 degrees farenheit. Dip each rib individually in your sauce of choice. Just use a large plate to roll them on. place Ribs in a roasting pan and cover bottom of roaster with about 2 inches of water. Some of the sauce will run into pan this is O.K.. Wrap pan with plastic wrap. Over the plastic, wrap with foil. If you have a lid for your roaster you can lid the roaster also. This is not necessary. Cook ribs overnight at stated temperature. when you awake remove them to refrigeration (unless you would like to try the best breakfast you have ever had). When you are ready to serve all you have to do is baste and place under broiler in over until sauce caramelizes. This is the best cook method I have ever used. Never fails.
Hope this helps you.
