cornstarch baby!
Flour
Cornstarch... dredge (coat) your berries in cornstarch before placing in the crust, when the berries bubble, the filling will thicken.

you could use corn starch, but that takes forever and ALOT of cornstarch.

use some disolved sugar in karo light corn syrup and a tablespoon of flour.
Use corn starch, flour or tapioca.
Get your berry mixture boiling and then add a mixture of cornstarch and water, alittle at a time until it is the right thickness. 1/4 to 1/3 cup water with 1 or 2 tablespoons cornstarch should be sufficient. Be sure that it is boiling, because the cornstarch will not thicken until it is boiling. Stir constantly!
i never use corn starch, though you can. when i am making a fruit pie such as peach, apple or blackberry, i mix a little flour with the sugar and cinnamon and toss the fruit to coat, then cut up pieces of butter--the real stuff and put that in the pie, too. never had a problem or complaint! just a little flour....no more than 1/4 cup per pie, if that much.

CORNSTARCH
flour here also
add a tbsp of quick cooking tapioca
One tablespoon Tapioca per pie. Just mix it with the fruit & sugar, etc and LET IT SET for about 30 minutes before assembling the pie -- I have better luck if I just have a little patience. Then bake as usual.
