I'm looking to make a cake that has the whoopie pie characteristics.. i want to use a whoopie pie recipe and have the rounded look instead of the just out of the round pan look. is there anything particular i need to do? can i use the recipe i have and just pour the batter onto a cookie sheet, lower the over temp and cook it a little longer?
Answers:
WHOOPIE PIE CAKE
3 eggs
1 1/2 c. milk
1 2/3 c. sugar
4 oz. sweet cooking chocolate or 3/4 c. semi sweet pieces
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
In a small sauce pan, beat 1 egg; add 1/2 cup milk and 2/3 cup sugar. Cook and stir over low heat for several minutes or until mixture begins to barely coat spoon. Add chocolate and stir until melted and mixture is thickened slightly. Cool to room temperature. In a bowl, cream butter until fluffy; add sugar and cream until light. Add vanilla and remaining eggs. Mix well. Sift together the dry ingredients and add alternately with remaining milk. Stir in mixture.
Spread half of batter into large round circles on a buttered and floured cookie sheet; repeat with remaining batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until top springs back when lightly touched with a finger. Cool and remove ot rack for complete cooling. Place one layer on serving plate and spread with filling; top with other layer.
Other Answers:
You could probably use the same recipe and bake it in a cake pan. I wouldn't think you should lower the oven temperature but, you will have to bake it longer.
No, it will drip off the pan.
you should judge the size for baking on a 4 sided cookie sheet, it would be the same as making a cookie it will form into a large cookie, which in turn 2 placed together of course cooled then filled would make a large woopie pie
