If you mean "to keep it a while"... just wrap it up in a plastic baggie or some Seran wrap..it usually keeps awhile.
refrigeate it..in zip lock baggie squeeze air out
freeze it in a sealed bag
Slice finely and place in airtight jar with water, or if you want puree and keep as paste ideal for sauces, curries.
Burying Ginger in the dirt will keep it fresh for a long time.(if you don't have a garden put a plant pot in the kitchen )
But if you want to keep Ginger for a long long time freeze it whole and you can use all year long, It's easy to grate frozen Ginger to use with marinates.
If you peel it then freeze it, when you need to use it it will grate quite easily then wrap in cling film and return to the freezer
