Better check with your local health department. A lot of states do not allow home based catering for health reasons. (My state being one of them! I wish I could cook from home! It would be so much simpler!)
To get going with your business, you need to get a city sales tax license, state sales tax license (which is where you'll register your business name for a trademark name as well) and a health department license. Every state's requirements are different, but those three will always be needed. If anything else is required, one of those three organizations will let you know what else you need to do.
Good luck to you!
