Stomp on them with heavy boots.

Other Answers:
steam them

Boil or steam them. I've tried sticking them in the microwave after sticking them with holes (when I was learning to cook), and although they turned out soft, they were soggy and disgusting.

To boil them, just boil a pot of water and toss in the carrots. Remove them when they are soft (about 10 minutes).

To steam them, boil water and have something that holds the carrots above the water so that the steam cooks the carrots. Cover the pot.

You can also bake the carrots. Before you bake them, poke the carrots full of small holes so that they bake faster.

You can also fry them with oil for about 10 minutes.

boil or steam them... but be patient, the longer you do this the softer and more tender they become. steam them...but what's wrong with raw?

blanch sliced ones in hot water for 3 minutes.

steam them boil them

Steam is best, thye keep their nutrients, and in fact, you get more out of them b/c the heat breaks down the cell walls that are too tough for chewing and stomach acid to break down.

You can boil some water and keep the carrots suspended above them (like a metal grill or colander) in a closed container.

You could steam them in the microwave. My favorite is to cut into coins and put in a casserole dish. Add just enough water to cover then add some dots of butter and sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake in 425 degree oven until soft. Yummmmy! cut up, put in safe bowl, add a small amount of water and butter if you want.
Cook for 8 minutes and check them.
If still firm cook another 4-5 minutes.

just put them in a pot of boiling water and then stick a fork in them to check for how soft there are the longer u let them boil the softer they get. I suppose you could stick them in a Bowl of water, it will take a while though.
All you have to do though, is peel them, slice, and put them in a pan of water and boil until tender.
Thats the way I cook them other than roasting them, and they turn out terrific.

I braise them. Slice them and cook them on the stove with a little water (not enough to cover them), a tablespoon or so of butter and a tablespoon of maple syrup. Stir and check frequently until they're the texture you want.
