Answers:
Grits are made from the milling of corn kernels. The first step in the process is to clean the kernels; then, the grains are steamed for a short time to loosen the tough outer hull. The grain kernel is split, which removes the hull and germ, leaving the broken endosperm. Heavy steel rollers break up the endosperm into granules, which are separated by a screening process. The large-size granules are the grits; the smaller ones become cornmeal and corn flour.

Other Answers:
w/ bacon and syrup...

i put some butter on them and sometimes some jelly all it is. is ground up corn Grits are ground, dried corn that are then boiled and served kind of like oatmeal.

Here in Georgia, they are quite popular, and with good reason, because they're yummy. Some people eat them with butter, but cheese is a lot more common.

If you want to try them, most grocery stores sell microwavable instant grits, which despite the rumours to the contrary, is what most people here eat as well.

of course i kno what grits are!!! i love grits plain, with just salt, just butter, just cheese, with bacon bits in them, i love them with eggs and sausage, mmmmmmm, but never mix all those things together with grits, that might be a little too much! grits are like farina and taste great i put some butter and sugar on them sometimes i put cinnamon on them as well and enjoy

With butter and a touch of salt, I like mine best with eggs fried over medium (that's with the white cooked and the yolk still just a little runny) or basted (that's where you start them in a pan as if you were going to fry them, but you put just a few drops of water in with them and then put a lid on the pan to steam them until the white is cooked both on top and bottom, easier than trying to flip them; I always end up breaking the yolk).

I'm from da south....I do eat grits like that......all mixed together! since I was knee high..sausage or bacon, cheese, eggs, butter....yummmyyyyy

Grits are made from dried hominy that's then ground up into a rough, powdery "gritty" meal. (Hence the name "grits"). To make this meal into something edible, it must be boiled.

Some people prefer savory grits and some sweet and some of us like both. Savory grits are those that are flavored with meat (usually pork - Ham or bacon or bacon fat). Sweet grits are those that are flavored with jam, jelly or syrup.

If you prefer sweet grits, you likely throw a bit of salt and some butter into the water that boils your grits. If you like savory grits, you're more likely to throw in some meat or meat fat when you cook the grits.

I personally am a sweet grits person. There's nothing like grits and cane syrup as far as I'm concerned!
