Im looking for japanese sauces for beef and steaks. Not the marinate. Im looking for the kind that they use on thin slices of beef. I think it had some sort of oily consistency and it was rather translucent with different seasonings visible. thanks

2 shallots, diced finely
1 cup warm water
2 tablespoons soy sauce
5 tablespoons smooth peanut butter
1 teaspoon grated ginger
hot chili sauce, to taste

Hi,
I'm Japanese.
Well, do you think you can give us more detailed information of the dipping sauce you want to know? We don't use only one type of sauce for the kind of dish. So if you can give more specific information of the dipping sauce, I might be able to answer it.
By the way, we don't use peanut sauce. Anything with peanut sauce is not Japanese food but American style Asian food.
Ponzu Dipping Sauce-- not sure if this it the one you're referring to. But I've had this sauce with beef at Japanese restaurants before.
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup soy sauce
3/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
1/2 cup dried bonito flakes
1/4 cup chopped green onions
PREPARATION:
Boil soy sauce in a pan. Let cool. Mix soy sauce, vinegar, and lemon juice. Add bonito flakes and green onions.
Makes 4 servings
