Won Ki's in Leicester Square.
It's pronounced One Keys.
That's a superb chinese restaurant, the staff treat the customers like dirt and are very rude, but the food is fantastic and a lot of chinese people eat there, so you know the food is ok. Just don't go expecting good service because you'll be disappointed. It has got a reputation for this treatment of customers. If you can ignore that, the food is superb.
Get yourself to Chinatown and take your pick. It is between Leicester Square and Soho (well, really part of Soho): look for Gerrard Street.
My advice would be go to leicester square and take a walk to china town.
Not only will you be right in the middle of more chinese restaurants than you can shake a stick at (I have been to a lot of them and have yet to have a bad meal), but you are also surrounded by some great sights, some great little shops filled with some of the strangest/best/funniest products you have ever seen, and the atmosphere is good.
Then theres a whole host of theatres/bars/clubs nearby (you can either walk or get a train one stop to most places) if you fancy carrying on that night...
Chinatown in Soho has pretty much all sorts! Or there used to be a really good one in Islington on Upper Street.
Chinatown, open from lunchtime til late night,most have menus outside their restaurants, just see which one is best for you.Wish I was coming too.
Fung Shing in Chinatown is one of the best, there is also a very upmarket chain called Zen which has about 5 outlets scattered all around town all MSG free. Be prepared for the fact that Chinese food varies considerably from country to country, I now live in New York and the type of Chinese cuisine here is vastly different from that in London.
To the muppet who joked about China, I have lived there and 90% of Chinese restaurants in China produce food that would be inedible to a westerner.

Yes, you can walk randomly around Chinatown to try, but given you're from San Francisco and are a Chinese foodie, I wouldn't recommend that experience if you only have 2 months in London. :-) I moved from Cali myself and have been here 6 years.

Firstly, if you are serious about chinese food which you are.....please don't go to Wong Kei's on Wardour Street as recommended [and the correct pronounciation is not "one keys"!] - I have been there a few times a long time ago, yes their service is bad and the food is just OK - nothing special...if you were a tourist than you might want to go there for an "experience" - but as someone who'll be living in London for a couple of months you need a good chinese restaurant!
