hi i like my fish quite plain and want to start eating and cooking more fresh fish i like haddock and cod and similar fishes, nothing strong like salmon and kippers etc. any good recipes not just for the fish but what goes with it as a meal asive never cooked fish myself so i dunno what it goes best with. any help would be great im going shopping later also so i can get all i need.

Answer:
Steamed/broiled/grilled fish drizzled with olive oil is great and with that u can have any veggie u like - steamed or stir fried - and some mixed salad
If you want to add starch, try some wild rice or baked potato with some butter

A complete meal from just a few things

Invest in a good griller, like a George Foreman, and vary the marinades - but beware of not using way too much salt as fish is already salty

Marinades should always include lemon juice and garlic
Or if you like grill it with some salt & pepper and drizzle with a vinagrette - that is gr8 too

Baked fish is gr8 too - wrap the fish in a piece of foil with a slice of lemon, seasoning, slice of onion, a few drops of both lemon juice and olive oil - bake for abt 15 mins while u stir fry veggies and heat up some garlic bread... SIMPLY DIVINE

Enjoy :))
Anything goes with fish, there isin't anything that will clash with it, in my opinion. .
Traditional things are cole slaw, hushpuppies, mac and cheese, spagetti, cheddar biscuits, okra, or green beans.. The things you would get at a Lenten fish fry or at Captain D's or Red Lobster.
If you are looking for healthy, some steamed broccoli or asparagus, with or without cheese sauce would be delicious, and look pretty on a plate.. Roasted potatoes with rosemary would be tasty.
I have some fish in the freezer, I'm going to allrecipes.com to see if there are any good recipes. Fish tacos are very popular right now. I want something different, besides rolled in breadcrumbs and deep fried.
Flounder & Halibut!!! They are delicious! Buy some ritz crackers & bake the halibut with a butter & ritz topping! it is yummy ;-)

aslo try this one... I made it & its great!!!

Oil Poached Flounder Recipe courtesy Alton Brown, 2005
Show: Good Eats
Episode: Flat is Beautiful III - Flounder

3 cups olive oil
1 1/2 to 2 pounds flounder fillets
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
2 lemons, thinly sliced
1 small bunch fresh parsley, thoroughly dried

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
In a medium saucepan over low heat, bring the olive oil to 300 to 310 degrees F.

While the oil is heating, season the flounder fillets on all sides with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Lay half of the sliced lemons and half of the parsley in the bottom of a cast iron skillet large enough to hold the fillets in a single layer without overlapping. Lay the seasoned fillets on top of the lemons. Top with the remaining lemons and parsley. Once the oil has reached temperature, gently pour it over the fillets, and place in the oven and poach for 10 minutes. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
