mmmmm =]
i love fried green tomatoes they are sooo good and i cook them all the time!!
heres my recipe...
1 cup buttermilk
1 large egg
1 tablespoon sugar
2 medium green tomatoes (about 1 pound), cored and cut into 1/2-inch-thick wedges
1 cup stone-ground cornmeal
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Pinch of cayenne pepper
Freshly ground black pepper
4 slices raw bacon
Vegetable oil for frying
In a large bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and sugar. Add the tomatoes and soak for 10 minutes, turning the tomatoes occasionally.
In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, salt, thyme, and cayenne. Season with pepper. Set aside.
Heat a large skillet cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Lay the bacon in the skillet and cook, turning once, until crispy, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel to drain, reserve the bacon fat in the skillet. Pour the oil into skillet to a depth of 1/2 inch and heat until hot.
Meanwhile, drain the tomatoes and toss in the cornmeal mixture until well coated. Working in batches if needed, fry the coated tomatoes, turning once, until lightly browned and hot, about 3 minutes the first side, and 2 minutes the second side. Using a slotted spatula or spoon, transfer the tomatoes to a paper-towel lined plate to drain.
enjoy =]
I have had them...they are alright....it just depends what you like. And yes you do batter them when you fry them..or at least I did.
omg those are soo good you dip them in ranch they rockkk
yes you batter them. and they are good in my opinion as well as fried yellow squash(also battered).
Yes, good stuff too.
Similar to the batter used for onion rings.
They really are good. I like mine dipped into a really good ranch dressing. YUMMMY ! Nobody makes them like thay do here in Georgia !!! Yeah Baby !
yes my grandma use to make them all the time. when in season. they are great. her recipe was to heat the oil, then dip them in flour/ mixed with salt, fry them until golden brown, put on paper towel to absorb grease then add more salt to taste if want to . yummy.
I've made both.Green and red.Yes u do put flour, salt and pepper on them. But the longer u cook them the sourer they become. There not as good as people say.You either like them or hate them
My mom and grandmother would dip them in egg and then in a flour mixture and fry them till golden brown. I personally thought they were horible, but the rest of the family loves them. Maybe I will be brave and try them again.
I live in North Carolina and I have seen them made several ways. Some people make them with a lighter batter like an onion ring batter. My mom makes them with a corn meal batter. I like them both ways. And talking about dipping them in ranch dressing made me think of something else to bring up. Have you ever eaten a fried cucumber? Those are really good too. Just make a seasoned mixture of flour. In a separate dish, beat an egg. Cut a cucumber in half and then cut the halves lengthwise. Dip the slices into the egg and then dredge in the flour and fry in hot oil. Serve hot with ranch dressing. That is yummy too. You know us southerners.....we will fry anything!
good stuff... yes, they are battered and then fried and normally have a maranaria sause with them
Yes . I love them if they are sliced thin and are crispy and crunchy. Some people slice them thick, so that the tomato is moist. Folk's has a good take on one.
It should be slightly tart with a mildly salty seasoned batter crust.
Whatever you do, don't eat the ones in the FF section.
no but it kind of sounds good
yes, they are delicious
Yes they are delicious. Yes you batter them w/ cornmeal.
Fried Green Tomatoes
Olive oil or vegetable oil
2 large or 3 small green tomatoes
Yellow cornmeal, for dredging
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Heat a small amount of oil in a sauté pan over medium heat. Cut the tomatoes into 1/4-inch slices. Dredge in cornmeal, coating well on both sides. Fry in the hot olive oil until golden brown, turning once. Drain on paper towels. Season with salt and pepper, and serve immediately.
