Kitty said: Yes.Help! Is there ANY possible substitute for nuoc mam?-I try seach this on internet but no results found.Maybe this is a stupid question.
Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(Help! Is there ANY possible substitute for nuoc mam?),it will help you,my kids.
The only supermarket I can get to does not carry it, and there's no Asian grocery near me. I know that it is a vital ingredient in Vietnamese cooking, but I'm out of luck. I realize it won't be authentic, but is there anything at all I could substitute with satisfactory results??
Answer:
If your grocery store has a Thai section, you can substitute NAM PLA. Otherwise combine soy & oyster sauces.
Use any fish sauce, or oyster sauce. Most Large grocery stores will have an asian section that has some form of fish sauce. It may be a specialty flavor but in a pinch the hint fish flavor is what your looking for.
You could add soy sauce to a really condensed fish broth. some places sell granulated fish broth but they also probably sell fish sauce. Really, I would suggest that you purchase some over the internet.
