Answer:
I'm not so sure of what garlic sauce you are referring to but I guess you may try oyster sauce.
1 tablespoon garlic, sliced or finely chopped
2 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon cooking wine
a pinch of sugar (optional)
1 teaspoon cornstarch
2 tablespoon water (or chicken stock)
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1) mix oyster sauce, cooking wine, sugar, water, cornstarch in a bowl, adjust the taste if desired, set aside
2) heat 2 tablespoon cooking oil (peanut oil or corn oil) in a sauce pan over low heat, stir fry the garlic till fragrant, turn heat to medium
3) Pour oyster sauce mixture in the sauce pan, stir till sauce is thicken, sprinkle sesame oil in the sauce.
4) Remove from heat, pour brown sauce on boiled broccoli.
You may also stir fry the boiled broccoli with this brown sauce.
Asian stores have this in prepackaged mixes.
usually, the brown sauce in chinese foods is a combination of oyster sauce, soy sauce, water, chinese cooking wine, cornstarch, salt and pepper. just adjust to your preference. if you want it darker, add more soy sauce. you could also add sugar to get a hint of sweetness.
