Answer:
if it smells funky it's bad if it smells fresh it's good
you can tell it's fresh when you get it
by smell it. the older it get the more it smells fishy
NASTY!
if this is some leftovers you've got sitting around, I'd be safe and toss it. With old and turning food, you can usually tell by smell or color or a little taste test. Roast beef gets rainbow colored, milk smells bad. With raw fish you want to be safe and if you have any doubt, just toss it.
fresh, sushi grade should never smell or taste fishy
tuna sushi is suppose to be the best grade of tuna you can buy... it should not smell fishy or like phenoma or foul, you are looking for a brightly colored cut of fish usually very bright pinky red... if it is greying it is getting old. make sure you keep it wrapped very well in the coldest part of the fridge and keep a baggie of ice on it to keep it longer.... make sure you use cleanhands when handling so you don't get food borne illnesses... enjoy
Smell, yes it is raw fish and it will smell like fish but if its old it will reak of fish. But mostly I wouldnt eat it after 4-5 days and that might be pushing it. Fish breeds bacteria FAST and it wont keep long unless its cooked or frozen.
If the edges of tuna (on the sushi) looks dried and dark color, means that that sushi has been sitting on the conveyer belt for long.
I personally will only eat it the day it is bought. After that the cat gets it, or my husband... He could care less about how old food is... Gross.
