Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(How can i learn to make south indian (kerala) food really well?),it will help you,my kids.
I am soon to be married (few months left). I am very nervous. My in-laws probably expect me to know everything right away.
Answer:
CONGRATS!
One of favorite Indian cookbooks will help!
"Savoring the Spice Coast of India: Fresh Flavors from Kerala"
by Maya Kaimal
Also a good Indian vegetarian cookbook on South Indian food in general is "Dakshin" by Chandra Padmanabhan
Hope this helps!
There is no shortcut way to learn cooking.
Find out some good Keralite Auntie in your neighbourhood and learn from her. Also practice a lot.
Unless they are the wicked stepmother & company from Cinderella, I doubt that they will expect you to know 'everything right away'.
Pick up a few books and see
1. What cookware is needed (you may need some specialty items)
2. What spices (guaranteed!) you will need (and spend the dough to buy the good stuff!)
3. What general ingredients are in play.
THEN: With at least a sniffing familiarity of the topic, ask! Your new in-laws may be flattered at your interest and energy, and willing to share tricks, secrets, recipes, and all kinds of stuff! Offer to help in their kitchen, or invite them to come and give you a lesson or two! It's a great way to bond, laugh and learn some very cool stuff.
The very fact that you're concerned is a huge point in your favor. Make it work for you!
Best wishes!
