looking for caviar and champagne for Christmas gift to Russian friend at Christmas party
Answer:
Take either the Q or the D train to the Brighton Beach stop. If you exit at the back of the train, walk along Brighton Beach Avenue (under the train, not away from it). If you walk along Brighton Beach Avenue from Coney Island Avenue to Ocean Parkway, you will have covered the major shopping area of Brighton Beach.
You didn't say where you're coming from; if the Q or D are not accessible to you, you can take the F, B or N into Coney Island and change for the Q train (3 stops and try to exit the front of the train).
There are separate kiosks that sell nothing but caviar (there is one two doors away from Starbucks and one on the other side of the street near the health food store (Brighton Beach Avenue and Brighton 6th Street). I think the liquor store on that block carries Russian champagne. If not, it is definitely carried at a Russian liquor store on Brighton Beach Avenue near Brighton 2nd Street (next to a health food store). Some of the larger food stores like M&M Innternational sell caviar and you can have coffee, cake and a plate of pirogi at their sit down food area upstairs. There is also an excellent 99cent store near the TeAmo and a very cheap, interesting Japanese store a few blocks up.
If it's a nice day, you can walk to Coney Island on the Boardwalk (the Boardwalk is one block from Brighton Beach Avenue, you can see it from the train station), or take the B68 bus to Coney Island and get a hot dog at Nathan's before you get on the train.
Order off the Internet from Garys wines in NJ, that takes car of the Champagne and you can order the caviar from
www.caviaretc.com . I buy all my wine and champagne from garys and no tax covers shipping, they have the best selection in the tri state area. cavieretc. delivers next day s good luck, other wise you need to cab it.
so you're giving a russian something that the russian has already had on many occasions? (well, maybe if you got the black caviar, it would be something, but the red caviar is common).
