when you get white rice from chinese restuarants, it tastes so much different than when you boil it at home. what do they do to their rice to make it taste good? How do i do it?
Answer:
The Chinese at home in Singapore, Hong Kong and China cook their rice with a rice cooker (or pots) with precise amount of water for that particular rice variety - all the water is used up - rice turns out fluffy white cooked to perfection. We almost never boil and discard excess water and steaming rice is very rare. The rice cooker nowadays teflon-coated is ideal; restaurants use the large industrial type to cook white rice. Boiling is a no-no because any nutrients in the water would be discarded through the excess water (Indians cook this way); leaving the white rice to taste different and flat.
boil steam add sugar to make it sticky love their pork fried rice and boneless pork spare ribs and yummy fortune cookies and egg rolls
Buy a rice steamer. Steaming it makes it stickier verses boiling
You can get a rice steamer. It works every time.
Get an elephant brand rice steamer. The other kinds do not hold up, but an elephant will last forever. Also, it is GREAT for cooking lots of things. I use mine to cook sausages and fish and all sorts of rice casseroles.
If you do not want to but a rice steamer, use a porcelain bowl with cover. Then just use a pot with water in it to steam the bowl (with the rice and water in it).
you have to buy a rice cooker and use "sticky rice" or jasmine rice.
They steam it with a device just for that. Dam it u guys have made me hungry for chinese food....Geeeeee
buy asian or calrose rice and use a rice cooker
I personally love thai, calrose, or basmati and always use a rice cooker. I only use long grain white rice for rice dishes like jambalaya or dirty rice or spanish rice and of course use a pot or pan.
Rice is steamed in China as opposed to boiled. You can buy a rice steamer or just do it in your pot. Also, I find jasmine rice more fragant than other kinds of rice.
