I've been studying this unfortunate syndrome for 60 years. It's truly tragic - especially as no-one bothers to TELL people just how dangerous it is!
The outrageous fact is that although the old-fashioned woollen socks that our grandparents used to wear only took about 5 years to digest - thus passing harmlessly out of the system - the more modern synthetic-yarn socks take a lot longer. It takes your average modern sock - just ONE at a time - at least 40,000 years to digest in the human gut. When you consider the fact that you've got hundreds of them in there, it's hardly surprising that modern man is dying of intestinal cancers and 'modern' diseases left, right & centre!!

The washing machine probably swallows 4 socks a year.
Since I don't and have never slept in socks, I find that highly unlikely.They say we have swallowed it is said on the equivalent of 8 spiders in our sleep but this has also been called a myth.

yeah like we also swallow spider they meant lint for enough fo r4 socks i think cause i know what i put in my mouth and it doesn't have anything to do with feet or other parts of body

That one is a fallacy. Even though there is positive evidence that people sometimes eat their pillows while dreaming that they are consuming marshmallows. They complain of feeling bloated for 2-7 days.
