Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(How many causes usually serve in a traditional formal banquet of your country?),it will help you,my kids.

Would you please give me a sample menu with brief explanation of the dishes? And which country (heritage) you are from?

I'm a Chinese, we usually avoid odd numbers especially "7" because we think it is unlucky.

For a 12 persons round table, mostly we serve 4 kinds to 8 kinds of cold food platter as appetizer in birthday banquet or a roast baby pig in wedding banquet, follow by either 2 or 4 hot stir fried dishes, then 6 or 8 main dishes + rice & noodle dishes + 2 desserts and fruit platter.

(That's strange - 7 is my favorite number and it is considered lucky in India!)

Anyways, in India the banquet depends on the occasion and purpose. If it's an official banquet as in business, it usually contains a Western spread; soup and appetizer, salads, a main course which may be an entree or a side bread dish. For drinks, there may be whiskey or red wine and any dessert from international cuisines.

However, Indian banquets are very common too and there is no even/odd belief in the number of dishes - but here's what is typically to be expected.

1. Appetizers: Chicken Tikka, Tandoori Chicken, Paneer Tikka, Shami Kebab - basically any grilled item. Since many Indians are vegetarians, it may be advisable to keep a vegetarian selection on hand.
2. Welcome drinks (non-alcoholic): Rose water, orange juice, Kasmiri tea, Kahwa (a variety of coffee). Some establishments keep a hookah for gentlemen - it's a water-filtered smoke device you may have seen it before as in the picture http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/image:syria...

3. Main course: Naan/Other breads (usually both are kept); at least 3-4 curries out of which at least 2 have to be vegetarian.

The most common curries selected almost universally:

a) Chicken Tikka masala
b) Paneer Makhani (Butter paneer)
c) Navratan Korma (sweet)
d) Mixed vegetable curry
e) Butter Chicken
f) Mutton Korma
g) Mincemeat fry

Many times, instead of so many curries there may be BIRYANI which is like a combination of rice and meat usually lamb.

4. Desserts - hell lot of desserts - I already answered a question related to Indian desserts

5. Apertifs - Indian meals tend to be heavy on the stomach so many digestives are available which are made of traditional herbs - one of the most common digestives is Paan which consists of fillings wrapped in a triangular package using leaves of the Betel pepper (Piper betle) and held together with a toothpick or a clove.

Paan is chewed as a palate cleanser and a breath freshener. It is also commonly offered to guests and visitors as a sign of hospitality and eaten at cultural events. Paan filling is generally a mixture of various spices, fruits, and sugar. Paan makers may use mukhwas or tobacco as an ingredient to their paan fillings. Although many types of paan contain Betel nuts as a filling, many other types do not.

Here is a picture of paan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/paan...

Paan consumption may be carcinogenic and hazardous as it contains tobacco but it is also possible to consume paan without tobacco and I usually take it after lunch as it makes me become active.

I even saw Paan in Thailand - it is well-known in South-East Asian
