Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(How many non-New Orleanians know what a Muffuletta is?),it will help you,my kids.

Do you know what it is and where it originated from?

Answer:
The best cold cut sandwich ever created - the olive salad is the key, good round bread and quality italian cold cuts including mortadella (sp?). My money is on the Progress grocery in NO as the originator.
Of course, I grew up In the Crescent City, so I'm cheating.
NO i DONT KNO
I know what it is and I know it originated at The Store.
Most of us don't care!
I know what it is and I am from WV
I'm not from there...what is it?
It's a sodium sandwich....mmm!
Thanks to Food Tv the secret is out!
1.i do
2. no, i don't- is it Italian or Sicilian?
I'm cheating too...it's one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. You're right the olive salad truly makes the sandwich. And you have to get it from the store. There's nothing better then getting a muffulatta sitting in Jackson Square and watching the people go by.

But you better share cause they're huuuge.
St. Louis has an Italian area called "The Hill". Great Muffuletta's. Been to New Orleans a few times but never had one there. Looks like i'm going to have to hunt one down next time i'm in the big easy. =)
Yes, I have actually purchased one in WV from a New Orleans native who opened a restaurant here. Pretty interesting sandwich with the olive salad on it! Also, saw it on the food network!
