I used to buy a kit in the grocery store to make Gyro sandwiches, it had the pita bread, the Santzicki Sauce and a vacuum sealed package of the meat, anyone know if anyone still sells it?
Answer:
I've never seen the product you're talking about, and I'd be interested in that myself. I usually make them with Steak-Umm's (which you can find anywhere), cream cheese, tomatoes, and onions. The only thing I sometimes can't find is the pita bread.
It's not really a true gyro, but it's an easy-to-make alternative.
Any greek deli or restaurant. Look in your local yahoo for it.
Grecian Delight in Chicago. I'm not sure if they would sell to the public, but if you call them they'll probably tell you which groceries they sell to. Yum, wish I had one right now (with tziziki sauce)
if you go to any middle eastern grocery store, you can find the gyro meat, sauce, and pita bread sold separately. i have not seen them sold together as a pack. if u dont find ur pack, this could be ur next best alternative. and since the meat is separate, you can sometimes jsut eat that (YUMMMMMMM) on its own! good luck!
I don't know about the kit, It doesnt sound ver appealing. Try making them yourself. You can buy th epit abread and all the fixins at Whole foods or an Ingles supermarket.
a big chain of grocery stores like sams club or citco they will have it on there frozen section
Usually it is in the deli aisle/section.
You can make it yourself! Go online and type "gyro meat recipe" in google and to your amazement one will come up! I don't know the proper spelling but the sauce is taziqquki sauce? Everything else is common grocery items.
The sauce is just cucumbers with sour cream. Don't believe there's any spices because it's generally very bland. The spice and flavor is in the meat.
if you live in a city try a greek deli shop
