Soup itself is western still i would say dalia or porridge
Dal is a popular soup, the one said Mulligatawny, but that is more an English version of a curry based soup, made in the Raj period for the English serving in India.
As for soups them selves, they would be based in the areas of India and the religous values, meat and non meat based soups, vegetable alone or as I as dal is the most popular and most widely known.
well the soups known in the Indian cuisine are
1. the shorbas by the Muslim community are very tasty and very rich i.e fat and protein usually they are made out of mutton etc
2.the northeastern people have a indigenous soup called THUKPA
this is made out of beef, mutton and different vegetables they all are boiled with water together over a long period of time to get the thukpa
originally thukpa traces its origin from the tibet but due to the common border this recipe made its way into indian food
