Does anyone know of some simple toppings for plain Japanese rice that are good? Somekind of sauce or spices etc..
Answer:
Rice Vinegar, Seseme Seed Oil, Soy Sauce. Each can be used individually or in combination with each other.
I always love a bit of soy sauce on the top of my rice, or even some wasabi paste, in case I'm feeling a bit crazy. Enjoy!
Japanese eat rice as is. Why don't you do a fried rice dish. Fry the rice along with some diced carrots, peas or pea pods, some scrambled egg, etc. And add a little soy sauce.
soy sauce, duck sauce, hot mustard, teriyaki sauce
I have been taught a variety of sushi by a Japanese tutor - made with plain rice (for a better serving layout you need to use a metal ring to place it on the plate), on top you need to put a scrambled egg, but the egg has to be the best quality you can find, and scramble it on a no-scratch pan, no fat added. serve the whole lot with some stir fried pok choi. Enjoy !
If you like really hot & spicy: Sambal Oelek (red chili paste) or Sriracha (chili/garlic sauce). & also just a bit of cilantro - jasmine rice is better but any rice does fine.
Also a milder & sweet sauce is Mae Ploy (Thai) which is also a very good dipping sauce.
How bout' plain old Soy Sauce.or a Teriyaki marinade
I love the red chili paste, although I'm not sure that's of Japanese origin. Other than that, soy sauce, sesame seeds, and wasabi are yummy!
As most of the other user already answer, Japanese Rice usually serve as it, but there are few execption.
