I certainly dont think it's humaine.
Halal means they cut its throat and hang it upside down to blead to death.
"giving it a drink of water and massaging it" give me a break, sure that may relax it, but the whole bleading to death thing undos that pretty quickly.
its actually killing an animal after giving it water and reciting some prayers .mostly for islam believers.for them then killing is no more a sin

yeap, when the animals are being slaughtered, the throats are cut in the name of the Almighty. It is to be a quick death immediately so that the animals may not suffer through prolong deliberation of death itself if they are to be slaughtered at other areas of the body besides the throat.

I think the animal stays alive when the throat is cut - because halal meat is a meat with no blood in it. (if I am not mistaking it with kosher - if I am, then forgive me). And to achieve that - the heart has to keep pumping the blood out of the cut arteries, untill all the blood drained from the body (you see a body is not a bottle that will loose all the liquid once the lid is opened and turned upsidedown)- there are too many vessels in the body, and to get all the blood out - the heart should keep pumping. I think it's more humane to knock the animal on it's head once - and then it's dead!
