I think the USA easily is the best. Because we are formed from so many different countries, that gives us the edge.
What other country has Cherry or Apple pie? We have a wide variety of cookies. Plus we have all those French and German and Greek pastries. We have all of that.
I used to go to the Mexican bakeries when I lived in Chicago, real tasty stuff.
France has French desserts. German, German desserts.
The USA has it all!
Italy has some pretty amazing stuff. Try some Cannolis, biscotti and tiramisu..
Being that I was born in Brazil I will have to say that Brazil has some of the best desserts in the planet. Of course Italians and French do it well, too. Oh, and those Polish people can make some mean sweets as well.

Italy has incredible desserts, as does France. Japan also has beautiful tasty dessserts that are less sweet and rich than the other countries mentioned.

when it comes to desserts, chinese is not really known but they do have a very wide variety if you are willing to try..there are simple ones like red bean soup and jelly beancurd and elaborate ones like yam paste with ginko nuts and eight treasure pudding..the list is endless..

I don't know if desserts are also Arab sweets, but I see no one has mentioned them yet here. Arabs use different ingredients as others have answered above, which is dates, pistachio, nuts, cashew, peanuts, cheese, etc. At the moment I remember only baklava, but there are many more, much better ones.
india.. visit any indian store or somethn and ask for indian sweets, oh man their mind blowing!!! ive had ppl 4m diff countries taste them.. they luv it!!! soooooooooo many varieties, i guess more thn 100 (not exagurating)

switzerland or italy has a big variety and Belgium has the best chocolate
