Answer:
No, its a german food
if you are talking about spaetzel..they are lil egg drop dumplings that you can put in soup.
are you talking about spaetzle?? It is a dish of noodles or dumplings made with flour, eggs, water or milk, salt and nutmeg
It's like a noodle used in soups , stews and with vegetables. Mix the ingredients and put into a flour sifter hold it over boiling water or your soup and let it drip in slowly till done.
Answers above are excellent--but there's an easy way to make them: cup +/- of flour, one egg, tsp salt, enough water to make a gooey-glob batter stiff enuf to pick up by half teaspoon and keep its shape [globby]. With a kettle of boiling broth on the stove, scoop up half-teaspoons of the batter and immerse spoon until the spaetzele drops off. Let the nubbins bob around--test one for done, and then lift them out with slotted spoon. Makes a dandy side-dish [throw in a knob of butter to keep them from sticking to each other] or throw into a soup or stew. Using a couple of beef bouillon cubes makes an E-Z broth for cooking these...adds flavor too.
small noodles, they are supposed to represent little sparrows
Spaetzle - shhhhpetzla = noodles, made with a "pancake-consistency" batter. They come in several shapes and sizes if you buy them dried, really hard to find stateside. Best you can do is a Klopfle sold in a little green box and way way way over-priced, usually around $4.50 and only enough for 1 or 2 people. You can fancy them up pretty much any way you would rice. Try them with a Schnitzle and fresh mushroom sauce, yum!! If you enjoy using every pot in your kitchen, you can make them. Google a recipe but be prepared to make a big mess in the kitchen. Really great Spaetlze-cooks "shave" the batter off an angled wood board with a knife over a large pot of boiling salted water. Good luck!!
