Answer:
Saffron Spice?
I think its Beluga white caviar or white truffles.
caviar maybe?
Truffles. The real ones. They are so rare that top chefs will pay the earth for them. They are priceless.
Truffles or Fois Gras or Caviar all of which are very expensive and only generally bought in small amounts unless you are Gordon Ramsay
truffles and caviers
Saffron..the spice
Saffron. For a small whisp of saffron you can pay around £2
Saffron, truffles.and a bottle of good wine
an ingredient that a women can cook for you without burning(only joking ladies )
Caviar...
saffron at 20$/gram so $20 000/kilo its a spice and the real macoy is found in remote small areas of the middle east
Saffron. by FAR the most expensive thing by weight, as it is the pollen fronds of the crocus flower... harvested by plucking each frond from the center of the tiny flower by hand. Very time consuming for very little substance.
either caviar or anything made out of bald eagles. hahaha
I agree with the saffron folks. But bulk loose tea can get up there in price. I just bought an ounce for a small gift bag today, $81 a lb. Yikes. But oh so good, Lipton Lovers need not apply.
kobe beef
morel mushrooms... i once saw it in the store for over 200 dollars a kg.
breakfast cereals! in terms of regular, non-specialty items (esp. items that are sold in larger quantities...)...they are the most expensive/oz..also because they are so wildly over-packaged- which actually outdoes spices like saffron, most expensive SPICES in the world- because herbs and spices aren't as ridiculously packaged. it's totally cereal. (also b/c they're reaaaaaaaaally cheap to produce)
saffron
Caviar or truffles. Used to be smoked salmon and olives - unfortunately I had expensive tastes when I was young and my parents not so well off. Handing out the canapes at someone elses party my sister and I managed to polish off all the olives before the party. Mum was mortified and I could not sit down for a week! My sister got off because she was younger than me!

Saffron is dead expensive too - I just use turmeric.
Caviar! Please give someone the 10 points - I keep seeing this question.
probably saffron
You won`t get it everywhere. It`s some over-pampered,over-priced meat from some animal in Japan.Other than that,i`d say caviar(there is one more expensive than beluga),but the average connossieur doesn`t go buying that in kilos.Trust Londoners though, there might be some obscure animal waste from some `exotic` backwater someone`s waiting to unleash on us as the biggest thing since Becks. We immediately start screaming `to die for` thus guaranteeing some ridiculous price for something that`s essentially crap!
saffron must come near to taking that title
mushroom's
saffron, although certain mushrooms are also expensive
