I am learning about American culture now.

Could you tell me what kind of do you like when you lived with your parents.

And What kind of food do you usually eat everyday??

Answer:
When my husband's away on work, I usually eat Lean Cuisine frozen dinners. But I cook for my 3 boys.

When my husband's home, I cook for all of us. We live in Tennessee.

This is typical of what we eat but not always.

One of the following for Breakfast:
Drinks:
1.Orange juice
2. Juicy Juice
3.Coffee with cream (I like flavored creamers)

FOOD:
1. Scrambled eggs with cheese, sausage gravy and biscuits (shh! don't tell my hubby, I buy the biscuits from our local grocery store's bakery. They taste so much better than mine.)
2. Waffles(prepackaged) or pancakes (homemade) with syrup.
3. Cereal with milk, yogurt, and banana.
4. Oatmeal (usually with butter, cinnamon, brown sugar & raisins) or Grits(even though I'm Southern, I like my grits with butter and sugar for breakfast) yogurt, and a banana.
5. Bagel with cream cheese, yogurt, and a banana.
6. Cinnamon rolls, yogurt and a banana.
7. Muffins of some kind, yogurt, and a banana.
8.Sometimes if I'm already out and about without having had breakfast, I'll stop at Starbucks and get a Cafe Mocha for me and cinnamon doughnuts with milk or water for the boys. I always drink a Strawberry DanActive in the morning.

One of the following for Lunch:
Drinks:
1. SWEET TEA!!
2. Water (me and the boys get water usually)
3. Coke (we're from the South. so coke can mean Dr.Pepper, Pepsi, Coke, etc. as long as it's a carbonated drink, it's a coke.)
4. Lemonade/Punch (for the boys when we're out)

FOOD:
1. Usually Sandwiches (hot dogs or PB&J for the kids, turkey-ham-cheese for the adults) fruit salad or grapes or oranges, potatoe chips and/or potato salad.
2. Sometimes we eat the left overs from the night before. If there are any. (There are 4 males in this house, so there's not always leftovers)
3. Occasionally, we go some where like McDonald's or Chuck E Cheese's. not often though. And I prefer Chic-fil-A if we eat fast food.
4. BBQ! I LOVE RIBS! with a dry rub and sweet sauce! or pulled pork or pork tenderloin and baked beans, slaw, garlic toast, fries. The boys get hot dogs and fries or fruit.

One of the following for Snacks:
Drinks:
1. Usually water
FOOD:
1. Fruit (banana, grapes, orange, apple, fruit salad)
2. Crackers and cheese or peanut butter.
3. Gummy fruit snacks.
4. Cereal or cheese crackers.
5. Nuts ( Pistachios, roasted peanuts or a mix)

One of the following for Dinner:
Drinks:
1.Same as lunch just add Milk/BOOST for the boys.

FOOD:
1. Meat of some kind... roast, meat loaf, ham, venison(deer), turkey (usually store bought, but I grew up eating wild turkeys that my father or grand father killed.Growing up, we also, occasionally, ate squirrel and rabbit and once had fried rattle snake. It was really good. But I guess most anything's good if it's fried ;-p) with mashed (real, not boxed)potatoes, green beans, corn, or whatever veggies I have on hand and rolls or cornbread.
2. Chili (not from a can) and cheese with corn bread or crackers.
3. Steak, mashed potatoes, salad, roasted asparagus w/ shredded romano cheese and e.v.o.o., or some other veggie, and rolls.
4. Spaghetti with meat sauce(semi-homemade) garlic bread, salad, and cheese.
5. When we lived in central Florida, we ate alot of fresh strawberries and citrus fruits, seafood (fish, bay scallops, shrimp), grits with cheese and sometimes gator.
6. I personally LOVE fried green-tomatoes with ranch dressing! And the only way I eat pickles alone is fried.
In the South, we fry pretty much any food! It's all good to eat, just not good for you.

That's not all, but I hope you get the idea. We eat whatever we're in the mood to eat. If I can't cook it, we go out for it. (Like Chinese food.)
Spaghetti, Tuna cassarole, Pork Chops, Chicken (fried or baked), A nice tri-tip roast, Burgers,.
I'm from Louisiana so we had lots of southern and cajun food. Jambalaya, fried chicken, gumbo, biscuits and gravy, seafood, etc. We ate very well, for sure.
I grew up eating things like meatloaf, mashed potatoes, root beer floats, steaks and macaroni and chees. Most things were prepackaged.

Now since i have my own children, i tend to make everything from scratch because I think it tastes better. They eat a lot of barbeque (we love that!), homemade foods such as greens, black eyed peas, chicken, cornbread (more southern styled foods even though we live in the midwest, i didnt grow up eating it, i had to learn how to make it)

It really depends on the area that you live in though. MIdwest means meat.. east coast is seafood, west coast is tons of lighter foods, nw has lots of fish as well... down south- they are big meat eaters- TONS of BBQ places.
we don't really eat the same things every day it varies. food i liked when i lived with my parents were just classic stuff such as meatloaf, mashed potatoes etc. etc. Many other cultures are in American cooking such as Mexico with enchiladas and stuff and Chinese food also. My mother made food from all kind of cultures
"They" say that the typical American food that "mothers" make is:

Meat & Potatoes.

For example,
Meatloaf
Mashed Potatoes
Veggie
Gravy
and
cookies!

Typical American Fare

By Hemanth Kulkarni
I have been in this country for two years now. In these years, I got familiar with the typical American food. The following is a typical American menu for a day:

Breakfast

Cereal with milk, scrambled or fried eggs, or an egg omelette, bacon or sausage,

toast or bagels along with orange juice.

Alternative Breakfast

Pancakes or waffles with syrup or biscuits and gravy with either juice or milk.

Lunch Menu

Sandwiches (peanut butter and/or jelly, cheese, bologna, turkey, ham), rolls, hamburgers, hot-dogs, pizza, tacos, chicken, salad, fruit (orange, banana, apple, tangerine), milk or a soft drink.

Dinner Menu

Pizza, meat (steak, chicken, fish, pork, turkey) with potatoes and a vegetable (corn, green beans, beans, carrots, spinach, peas, greens, asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli), spaghetti with either tomato or meat sauce, lasagna, tacos, and dessert (cake, cookies, pies, ice cream, and candy).

Because the United States has long attracted immigrants from a wide variety of nations and cultures, it is no surprise that the cuisine of the United States is extremely diverse and difficult to define.

One way of describing American cuisine is a synthesis of cuisines from around the world, a style of cooking that takes something from each immigrant community.

On the other hand, American cooks have exported a great variety of dishes around the world, and in many ways American cuisine is just as recognisable and as popular as French, Chinese, or Indian.
Growing up weekday mornings were cold cereal in the warm months, oatmeal in the winter. Weekends we'd get French toast or pancakes with either sausage or bacon. Lunch was homemade soup and a cold sandwich. The soup was made in large batches and would last three or four days. Dinner was always some sort of meat, a potato and a vegetable. Sometimes we'd have a salad or sometimes homemade applesauce.
In America we like a lot of meat. At least 4 ounces with every meal. The meat we like is beef, chicken and pork.
We like a lot of starch with our meals, potatoes, rices, or pasta, most often potatoes.
We like veggies but not as much as we think we should. Typical vegetables for an all-American meal are corn, green beans peas and carrots.
This is a very rough description of the 'typical' American meal.
Baked chicken
meatloaf
roast beef
mashed or baked potato
sweet potatoes
macaroni and cheese
peanutbutter and jelly sandwich
green beans
peas
corn
cheese
pancakes
eggs
cereal
milk & cocolate milk
toast
pizza
pork ribs
hot dogs
soup
crackers
apples, banana, grapes
pie
ice cream
orange juice
pop
water
lettuce salad
A lot of milestones in my life happened while my mom was making spaghetti with meat sauce.

She made fantastic fried chicken...the BEST, with mashed potatoes and country (creamy) gravy.

We ate ribs, pork roast, and lots of different soups.

My mom liked to try new recipes all the time too.

I remember having strawberry shortcake a lot.
I am from the south, so thing's I ate when I was growing up were the southern staples. Breakfast- Gravy & biscuits, country ham, & scrambled eggs with cheese. Lunch was usually a ham and cheese sandwhich with potatoe chips. And for supper as we southerners call it was usually some kind of fried meat like chicken or pork chop, sometimes meatloaf, but always pinto beans and cornbread, some kind of greens(collard, turnip, kale, spinach ect) fried okra, squash and either fried potatoes or mashed potatoes and gravy. Thats the kind of stuff I ate while I was growing up, and I still eat it today.
mom is a good cook so anything she cooks is good, anything from chicken, fish, even deer, but on a normal day something like chicken, fish, or a hamburger
Neither of my parents cook, so for breakfast we usually have ceral with milk, or oatmeal, or toast with jelly, or a bagel with cream cheese. For lunch we usually go to a fast food restuarant, like Carl's Jr, McDonalds, Wendy's, or Taco Bell. For dinner we usually eat at a more expensive restuarant, and we choose which resturant we want to eat at by the type of food they serve: Italian, Mexican, Chinese, or an American-style resturant, which might serve things like burgers and fries. With breakfast you might drink milk or orange juice (or any other type of juice). With lunch and dinner you usually drink a soda pop, such as Sprite, Coca Cola, Dr. Pepper, or Mountain Dew. Some people have a cup of coffee or tea after dinner.
