OH MAN German food is good! Make sure you try Rouladen - beef rolled up with pickle, onion, mustard, etc. It sounds wierd, but you will love it. If you like pasta, try spatzle - its kind of like pasta but its made a bit different - usually has like a gravy on it. Also, some other good things, saurkraut, potato salad, mashed potatos, sausage, shnitzel... the awesome thing about german cooking is that they put bacon in everything! MMMMMMMMMM
Traditional German food consists of sausages (it's where we got bratwurst, liverwurst and many other kinds of sausages and cold cuts from originally), sauerkraut, wonderful breads and of course some of the best beer in the world. But they do eat pasta, steaks and vegetables and just about everything else we have here, including...ugh...American fast food franchises...but not nearly as many as we have here.
You'll find the produce and meats in many cases are a of a lot better quality than in the US because many European countries do not hybridize or genetically alter produce to get more yield and less flavor.
Not to worry...you'll be fine over there.

sauerbraten (sour marinated roast), kartoffelpuffer (potato pancakes) or spaezle or dumblings.
bratwurst with rotkraut (red cabbage with apples) or sauer kraut ...that's why they call us KRAUTS..hehe

But these days, we are more cosious...healthwise. And you can find everything, there are lots of Italiean restaurants, Steak houses and you'll find veggies everywhere. Of course, you need to try some of the traditional foods. And depending in what area you will live, there are specialties.

Lots of yummy pork and other things of course. Kassler Rippchen is awesome (that's a pork dish). You'll see a lot of goulash, even though it is traditionally Hungarian. That's a wonderful beef, onion parika, dish. I think some one already mentioned Spaetzle which are wonderful little, pasta like dumplings. Anykind of sausage/wurst you could imagine. Sauerbraten, white asparagus, schnitzels, german potato salad, kraut...
Bratwurst (sausage), sauerkraut (cabbage), AND plenty of BEER (if you consider that a food which I definitely do!). Have fun.
