I'm too lazy to make it frmo scratch. I heard a good brand is Mae Poy or something, but where do i get it?
Answer:
Dear Lazy,
I've been to very few places in the USA where there is no Asian/Oriental food store. Just look in the Yellow Pages for Oriental Grocery...and you'll find curries galore.
I recommend the Red or Panang Curry as being the best. Be sure to stock up on coconut milk. To make authentic red or panang curry...see if the oriental store has THAI BASIL and KAFFIR LIME LEAF. Adding a bit of each to your curry will really bring the flavor out. Also add FISH SAUCE.the store owner will be able to pick out a good brand for you.
Good Luck!
Where is Bergen County? Here is an online supplier
If you know where the National Wholesale Liquidators on Route 17 north is, they have a (from what I can recall) fairly large food section upstairs. You could try there, but don't hold me to it.
Can't help you with Bergen County, but I live in a fairly isolated place, so do most of my shopping for foodstuffs online. I go to Curry Simple - http://www.currysimple.com - for all kinds of Thai curries. These curries are amazing - fresh, and taste as good (if not better than) my favorite Thai place. They are pre-mixed, and all you have to do is add your choice of meat/fish/tofu and vegetables. With some Jasmine rice, you have an outstanding curry. (Shipping is fast, too!)
http://www.templeofthai.com is where I purchase ingredients. Their red curry paste is very good. Hope this helps!
There is an ethnic foods mega mart in Spring Valley, NY.
They carry just about EVERYTHING.
It's not too long of a drive from Tenafly.
