Kitty said: Yes.Why are there always Asian Americans at American Chinese Restaurants? Isnt real -I try seach this on internet but no results found.Maybe this is a stupid question.
Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(Why are there always Asian Americans at American Chinese Restaurants? Isnt real ),it will help you,my kids.
I love asian food, every kind. And for the record, I could care less who I dine with. But, I'm always curious when I see asian families at an American Chinese restaurant. Isn't American Chinese food a lot different than food from China? Why do Asian Americans enjoy American Chinese food so much?
Answer:
real chinese cuisine... there are so many other "subcategories" of chinese food - shanghainese, pekinese, cantonese, szechuan food, so even in china there isn't one type of chinese food.
i'm asian and i don't cook, so when i miss "chinese" food, i go to the american chinese restaurants. there isn't any other way i can get my fix.
The same reason you do.
Maybe because they're American too.
If the place is packed with mostly asians, it means the food is closely authentic without any added ingredients like msg.
Having been married to a Chinese woman for 6 years here in the S.F. Bay area, i've eaten out with her family many times. Many Chinese restaurants here have dishes that aren't on the English menus. My mother-in-law would usually order ahead the dishes she wanted and in this way i was introduced to many different Chinese dishes in addition to those that she made for family dinners. Bitter melon, which isn't on many menus even here, is one of my favorites. I don't think most American chinese restaurants do this because their patrons are mostly non-asian, but even the familiar foods served are good enough to appeal to everyone, even Asians.
U eat what you want and what u can afford.
American Chinese food is definatly different and can be pretty good (depending where you get it) that's probally why many Asian-Americans enjoy the American Chinese food. Just because they enjoy American Chinese food doesn't mean they don't enjoy authentic Chinese food. I'm not Asian or Asian-American but I do love authentic Chinese food, there's a good restraunt in DC that serves more of the authentic Chinese dishes.
There are American-born Chinese who can't even write their name in Mandarin, or speak their mother tongue; just as there are Brazilian-born Japanese who don't know how to speak in Japanese.
My point is that Asians who are born overseas and grew up in their adopted countries are very much 'natives' of the countries of adoption. They are only Chinese/Japanese in appearance and it stops there. Many do not even have the interest to visit Asia. They just join the rest of the other non-Asian Americans in "Chinese restaurants in America" for their weekly dose of Chinese culture.
Because either they have never tried authentic Chinese food or can't afford always go to the authentic ones to dine. I have worked in Hong Kong for two years, and believe me, the Chinese food there is a lot different from the ones here. I haven't eaten any Chinese food from the food court or average Chinese cafes here since I am backed.
